MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION GUIDE FOR THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SYMPOSIUM OF INTERNATIONAL SCIETY OF RARE SUGARS
The purpose of the Proceedings of the Symposium of International Society of Rare Sugars is to communicate and propagate the results of applied, technical and basic research on rare sugars under the instruction of the International Society of Rare Sugars.
The following policies have been developed by the Editors of the Proceedings and approved by the Society's International Committees.
The person presenting the paper must be registered at the Symposium (except for invited papers) to be accepted for the Proceedings. Papers not presented at the meeting will not be published. Manuscripts for the Proceedings can be submitted prior to/during the meetings. There will be a secretary at the registration desk for submission of the manuscripts. Please inform the type of papers (original papers or not) and complete the process to submit the proceedings.
In the Proceedings, papers will be submitted in two categories:
1. Review or Report Articles: General reviews, valuable technical and research reports on rare sugars. Review or report articles presented for publication in the Proceedings are generally published with minor editorial changes without peer reviewing. However, editors may request revisions if manuscripts are verbose, unclear, not in the proper style, or contain extraneous or improperly documented statements. About 4-5 pages of single-spaced typing will be the limit in the Proceedings. Excessively long papers will be returned for shortening.
2. Original Papers: Valuable and unpublished research data on rare sugars.
Acceptances of abstracts for presentation at the meeting does not imply acceptance of manuscripts for publication as an original articles in the Proceedings. All manuscripts submitted as original papers will be subjected to peer reviewing. About 6 pages of single-spaced typing will be the limit in the Proceedings. The Society reserves the right to reject papers or to publish them as report articles only as determined by the Section Associate Editor with concurrence of the Editor.

Guidelines for manuscript preparation
General recommendations
Since all the manuscripts are subjected to the offset printing for publication in black/white, authors are urged to write as concisely as possible. The manuscript must be in English, and are to be submitted as two copies of photo-ready quality printed manuscript and a computer file of the text in standard MSWORD format in a 3.5 inch floppy diskette. Use A4 or letter size paper, 12-point Times New Roman font, and leave 1-inch (2.5-cm) margins left, right, top, and bottom. Papers should be arranged in the following order of presentation: title; name(s)of the author(s); affiliation; abstract (50-200 words in length); the text (introduction, materials and methods, results, discussions); acknowledgements if any; references.

Manuscripts
Center the title (all-caps, bold type) at the top of the 1’st page. Leave a blank line before beginning the author list and affiliation, which also are to be centered. Leave a blank line after the author list and affiliation, and then begin the abstract.
Abstract should be typed with a single spacing with 5 spaces indentation (except the first line), and centered on the page with a 7-spaces margin on each side. Heading should not be provided for the abstract. Leave a blank line after the abstract, and then begin the text with headings.
All headings should be typed in capital bold style and numbered (except ACKNOWLEDGEMENT(S) and REFERENCES) as follows:

Example
Primary heading (Centering)
1. INTRODUCTION
2. MATERIALS AND METHODS
3. RESULTS
4. DISCUSSION
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
REFERENCES

Secondary heading
2.1 ENZYMES
2.2 CHMICALS
Primary headings should be centered, and preceded and followed by an interspace blank line. Secondary headings should be preceded and followed by a blank line.
Paragraphs should be typed with a single spacing with 5 spaces indentation (except the first line). Between the paragraphs, no interspace is required.
Acknowledgement(s) should be typed with a single spacing with 5 spaces indentation.
References should be numbered in the order of appearance; citations to them in the text are by numbers in parentheses. References should be typed with 5 spaces indentation (except the first line) and single line spacing. No interspace is required between references.
Illustrations (figures) and tables
Figures should be high gloss, black and white documents (original drawings or photographs). Black and white photographs can be included in manuscript.
Figures should be inserted directly in the text, or put onto the text with Magic transparent scotch tape. Never use glue, clips or staples. Tables should be typed directly in the text.
Figures and tables must be identified in the text by consecutive numbers (Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3..., Table 1, Table 2, Table 3...).
Figure captions should start by Figure followed by a space, the figure number (Arabic numeral), a period, a space, and footnotes should be typed under the figure.
Title of tables should be typed at the top of the table, and start by Table followed by a space, the table number (Arabic numeral), a period, a space; whereas footnotes should be typed under the table.

Footnotes
Footnotes should be used sparingly. In the manuscript, a footnote should be placed at the bottom of the page on which it is referred to and separated from the main text by a horizontal line above the footnote. Footnotes to tables should be placed at the bottom of the table to which they refer.

Units and Abbreviations
SI units should be used. Abbreviations should be used sparingly, and referred in the text in their first mention.
