I had the incredible opportunity to visit\u00a0Taiwan, fostering meaningful connections between universities and exploring exciting collaborative possibilities from December 2 to 9, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
National Taiwan University (NTU)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
At National Taiwan Unversity (NTU), I was graciously hosted by\u00a0Prof. Chung-Hsi Chou, PhD, DVM\u00a0(\u5468\u5d07\u7199), from the School of Veterinary Medicine. Touring his lab and learning about the cutting-edge research conducted by his 30-member team was inspiring. Our discussions focused on collaborative projects, particularly involving NTU\u00a0and\u00a0Kagawa University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
December 2<\/strong> I had the privilege of visiting Prof. Chou\u2019s lab, accompanied by two of my students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
December 6<\/strong> We explored deeper discussions on collaborative research and faculty exchange opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
I also met with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 9 Prof. Dr. Wei-Hung Kao, Chair, and\u00a0Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yen-Fen Liao, Deputy Chair, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, College of Liberal Arts, NTU. These meetings emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration, including language education and cultural exchange.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
National Chiayi University (NCYU)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
During my visit to NCYU, I met faculty and explored collaborative prospects with various departments, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Department of Veterinary Medicine\u00a0(hosted by\u00a0Prof. Dr. Zhimin Lai, Dean).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Department of Animal Science\u00a0( hosted byProf. Dr. Tsai-Fuh Tseng\u00a0Chair, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chun-chi Che)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Department of Horticulture (hosted by\u00a0Asst. Prof. Dr. Hsiao-Wen Wang)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (hosted by Vice President Prof. Chang & Prof. Yang, Dean of International Affairs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Key activities included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Discussing joint research initiatives between\u00a0Veterinary Medicine,\u00a0Animal Science and Horticulture, aligning with ongoing student internships.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Exploring\u00a0Double Degree Program (DDP)\u00a0opportunities with Horticulture and other interested departments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Presenting internship and study opportunities for NCYU students at KU’s Faculty and Graduate School of Agriculture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Networking with the\u00a0Office of the Vice President for International Affairs\u00a0to develop the 2026 Symposium team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Student Internships<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
I was delighted to see the success of student internship programs connecting NCYU and KU:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Kaho Shinomiya\u00a0interned in the Department of Animal Science under the guidance of\u00a0Asst. Prof. Dr. Chun-Chi Chen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Ms. Rinko Ogata\u00a0interned in the Department of Veterinary Medicine under the mentorship of\u00a0Prof. Dr. Zhimin Lai.\n

Internship dates: December 2\u201315.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
This visit strengthened academic partnerships and opened new avenues for student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and collaborative symposium planning. I am grateful for the hospitality and forward-thinking vision shared by my Taiwanese colleagues and look forward to deepening these connections in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
