It is the northernmost subspecies in the distribution of Genus Ornithoptera.
Only one subspecies admiralitatis, with characters of the Priamus-, the Poseidon- and the Eastern Subspecies-Groups. Of these, it has the most in common with the Priamus-Subspecies Group, followed by the Poseidon-Subspecies-Group, and less in common with the Eastern-Subspecies-Group. This seems to be a unique subspecies that separated from the ancestor of Priamus at an early stage.

Medium sized and spots fairly stable.
