Eastern-Subspecies-Group

(Characteristics)

  1. This group includes three subspecies (bornemanni, miokensis and urvillianus) from the first route of ssp. poseidon spreading eastwards from New Guinea, and a further ssp. caelestis that took a different route, via Engineer Islands to Lousiade Archipelago.
  2. The color of ♂ patches changes from green to blue gradually as it migrates eastwards. In addition, the median stripe is minute or absent, and anal and submarginal bands are interrupted. The black scales on the HW upper side are dense.
  3. The ♀ is only dull (=pale) form. The contrast between spots and ground color is weak. The HW pale band is short, not reaching the cell and yellow color of submarginal area is less or absent.
