6. Ssp. ukihidei Hanafusa, 19947) [♀] [♂: Deslisle, 19951)]
(Distribution) [Map 56]
INDONESIA [Irian Jaya] Yapen Is.
(Episodes of discovery and original description)
Mr. Hanafusa obtained 2♀♀ specimens of O. goliath from Yapen Is. in 1982 and reported them as a new subspecies of O. goliath because they matched the ♀ specimens collected Mr. Ukihide Tateishi on the same island in 1993. The name of the new subspecies, ukihidei, is derived from the name of the collector. On the other hand, the ♂ specimen was described by Mr. Deslisle in 1995.
(Characteristics)
Medium size and patch-patterns of both sexes are fairly stable.
(Spotted pattern)
♂: Moderate shading by black scales in the space 1b of the cubital band of FW, but no clear distinguishing points from other species. The side of abdomen are yellow without hairs.
♀: FW spots are rather large, especially cell-spot, subapical streaks, and the 2nd discal spot, and are conspicuous due to lesser shading of the black scales. HW is gray with pale ochre on submarginal area. Abdomen is milky white dorsally and is yellow with black streaks laterally and ventrally, but without body hairs.
(Variation)
♂-f. edouardei Deslisle, 19951): [Aberrant FW pattern] Presence of one or two semi-translucent golden streaks within the radial band.
