8.Ssp. arkumene Hayami, 199418) [♂, ♀]

(Distribution) [Map 156]

  1. MALAYSIA [Pahang] Tioman Is., Aur Is.

(Episodes of discovery and original description)

Based on 6 pairs of specimens from the isolated islands of Tioman and Aur in the southeast of the Malay Peninsula, described by Hayami in 1994. The subspecies name arkumene means “Chaste Woman” (Greek Myth.)

(Characteristics)

This subspecies is only found in Tioman Islands, about 56 Km from Malay Peninsula (Johor). It is very similar to ssp. ruficollis from Malay Peninsula, so may be the same subspecies, although detailed description is not possible due to the limited number of available specimens.

(Spotted pattern)

♂: The wing vein-stripes on FW are all yellow on ssp. ruficollis, whereas only discocellular spot (cell-spot) and its surrounding are dark yellow, gradually become dark white towards submarginal short stripes in this subspecies (according to the picture of the holotype specimen). On the HW, black marginal projections are smaller, but resemble those of ssp. ruficollis.

♀: As with ssp. ruficollis, the dark discal spots on HW are short and narrow, so there is no distinguishing feature between two.
