(Episodes of discovery and original description)

Ohya (1985) described it as a new subspecies based on 8♂♂, 3♀♀ collected by Mr. Detani on Simeulue Island in December 1982 and June 1984. Nine years later, it was found on Babi Island, a nearby small island, and was described by Kobayashi & Hayami as ssp. odeipus in 1994 but is now treated as the same subspecies as simeuluensis.

(Characteristics)

It is the most northwesterly distributed of the subspecies of this species. The spotted pattern is quite stable.

(Spotted pattern)

♂: Vein-stripes on FW are large and bright yellow, especially those along the V^4th and V^5th form a V-shape on the inside in space 4, and it is particular that the vein-stripe along the lower margin of V^4th reaches the cell. The vein-stripes of the V^1b – V^3rd on submarginal region are only traces. The outer margin of HW is mildly wavy and rounded. Black marginal projections are the largest as with ssp. niasicus.

♀: The vein-stripes of FW are grayish-white and light, and the same-colored cell-spot is relatively large. In addition, dark discal spots of HW are relatively short and fused with each other to form a band. Dark discal spots in spaces 2 and 3, especially in space 2, do not extend much towards the cell, so the yellow area is relatively wide and there are few brown scales on it.
