(Episodes of discovery and original description)

A new subspecies from southwestern Borneo not previously studied, described by Kobayashi

based on 12♂♂and 5♀♀. The new subspecies is named after Mr. Tsuyoshi Hayami, his

collaborator regarding Birdwing Butterfly.

(Characteristics)

The newly discovered smallest subspecies. The ♂ resembles the nominotypical subspecies, and the ♀ has an intermediate morphology between the nominotypical ssp. and ssp. neomiranda.

(Spotted pattern)

♂: The ground color of the wing is glossy black with dark-blue sheen color. FW vein-stripes are short, extending from subapical region to V^2nd submarginally, and are conspicuously white but slightly yellow on the inside. The black marginal projections of HW are alike those of the nominotypical subspecies, but smaller than those of ssp. neomiranda and with a neat semicircle at the apex.

♀: The ground color of FW is dark chocolate, and as in ♂, there are conspicuous white vein-stripes from subapical region to the inner margin submarginally. The yellow markings of HW are larger than those of nominotypical ssp. because the dark discal spots are not as evenly distributed toward the cell.
