A group of small to medium-sized species distributed from South and Southeast Sulawesi and its neighboring islands to the Lesser Sunda Islands (=Nusa Tenggara) with a few exceptions. The number of occurrences of each district is generally high. Seven subspecies and 1 local form are known, of which one subspecies is questionable because its ♀ is unknown. The species from the West Daya Islands, further east, is classified as a separate species (T.  staudingeri ).

(Distribution) [DCD 29]

INDONESIA: South and Southeast Sulawesi, Lesser Sunda Islands (=West & East Nusa Tenggara), Western Daya Islands (Wetar Is.).

(Vertical distribution)

0 – 1, 000 m. a. s. l.

(Spotted pattern)

♂: FW has a long anterior margin and a short inner margin, resulting a narrow wing shape. HW is also narrow with the prominent anal angle. FW is glossy black with faint vein-stripes. On the underside, the vein-stripes are much broader grayish white with a slight bluish tinge. The semi-translucent golden patch on HW vary in size and shape due to their wide distributional range, but they are generally small and the nominotypical subspecies often does not appear in the cell. Reddish hair tufts are present on the neck and lateral thorax. The upper surface of abdomen is blackish brown and on under surface, some edges of the terminal abdominal segments are fringed with yellow.

♀: Wing shape more rounded than in ♂. Wing color dark brown to blackish brown or light brown in some subspecies. Grayish-white cell-patch and vein-stripes spreading out on all but the basal 1/3 of FW. The black marginal border of HW is broad and covers almost half of the discal spaces. Dark discal spots tend to be smaller in western subspecies and larger in eastern species. Yellow pale band of HW is cream-colored on underside. Red hair tufts are present on both neck and lateral thorax. The upper surface of abdomen is light brown, the undersurface black and abdominal segments are fringed with yellow as in ♂

(Larval foodplant)
