(Episodes of discovery and original description)
Subspecies described by Rothschild in 1896 based on specimens collected by A. Everett in December 1895 in Tanahjampea and Bonerate Islands, which are located further south than Selayar Island.
(Characteristics)
This subspecies occurs on islands about 60 Km south of Selayar Island, the habitat of ssp. pallens. This subspecies is sometimes considered as ssp. pallens because there are few differences in appearance between the two subspecies, but since some differences can be recognized, so they are treated as a subspecies here.
(Spotted patterns)
♂: The vein-stripes on FW are darker than in ssp. pallens. The semi-translucent golden patches on subcostal space of HW is smaller and more triangular than the trapezoidal spot in ssp. pallens. The yellow borders on the underside of abdomen are narrower.
♀: Slightly smaller than ssp. pallens. The ground color of the wings and the upper surface of abdomen are darker than ssp. pallens, rather resembles the nominotypical subspecies. The spotted patterns of HW are alike ssp. pallens, but the spots on the underside are yellow, not milky white as in ssp. pallens.
