(Episodes of discovery and original description)
The description of heptanonius is based on a specimen (4♂♂, 3♀♀) collected by Fruhstorfer (1913) on Damar Island.
(Characteristics)
This subspecies closely resembles ssp. staudingeri and ssp. ikarus.
(Spotted pattern)
♂: The semi-translucent golden patch on HW is present from subcostal space to discal space 2, and its size is about half of the length of discal space at discal spaces 6 – 2, and the cell-spot is situated outside the line joining the origin of V7th and V2nd. Neck and lateral thorax with red hair tufts.
♀: FW cell-spot and vein-stripes are grayish-white and considerably distinct, and the cell-spot extends to the level of the origin of V3rd but vein-stripes along V1b – V2nd do not reach the cell. The yellow patch on HW is situated in median 1/3 of discal spaces 1b – 6, and cell-spot is located outside the line connecting the origin of V7th and V2nd. Discal space 1b milky white. Reddish hairs present on the neck and lateral thorax.
