INDONESIA [Maluku] Tanimbar (=Timor Laut) Islands (Serua Is., Yamdena Is., Larat Is.).
(Episodes of discovery and original description)
Subspecies described in 1904 on the basis of 2♂♂, 2♀♀ collected on the island of Seraru by Fruhstorfer himself. The subspecies name ikarus is derived from Ikarus (Ikaros), the son of Daedalos (the engineer), who, while flying with bird feathers invented by his father to escape from Crete, disobeyed his father’s orders and flew too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt and crash into the sea, where he died (Greek mythology).
(Characteristics・Spotted pattern)
Both sexes closely resemble the above two species (sspp. heptanonius and staudingeri).
