- Ssp. parrottei Deslisle, 19891) [♂, ♀]
(Distribution) [Map 98]
INDONESIA (Sumatra) [S. Sumatra] Mt. Dempo (1,200 m).
(Episodes of discovery and original description)
It was described by Mr. Deslisle in 1989, based on 13 ♂♂ and 5 ♀♀collected in 1988 at Mt. Dempo (1200 m) in the southern part of Sumatra. The new subspecies was named after Mr. Rod Parrott, a researcher of Birdwings.
(Characteristics)
This new subspecies is very similar to ssp. honrathiana, which has been thought to occur only in northern and central parts of Sumatra Is., but it was newly discovered in the southern highlands of Mt. Dempo. The only distinct difference between this new subspecies and ssp. honrathiana is the presence or absence of a black anal spot in space 2 of HW underside of ♂.
(Spotted pattern)
♂: A round black spot surrounded by yellow scales is present on the anal angle (space 2) in HW underside. In addition, this subspecies seems to have a high rate of a black discal spot in space 3.
♀: The original description points out that the black discal spots are as small as in the nominotypical subspecies but in many specimens, it seems impossible to distinguish it from ssp. honrathiana.
