(Distribution) [Map 121]
INDONESIA [Aceh] Weh (=We) Is.
(Episodes of discovery and original description)
The subspecies described by Rumbucher & Schäffler in 2005 based on 8 ♂♂ and 6 ♀♀collected between 1999 and 2003 on We Island, north of Sumatra. The subspecies was named after the ancient Greek goddess of agriculture.
(Characteristics)
The habitat is a small island about 15 Km off the northern tip of Sumatra. There are only a few specimens available, so not enough comparisons have been made.
(Spotted pattern)
♂: The wing shape is not different from that of Sumatran ssp. typhaon. The dark grayish-white vein-stripes on the underside of FW show through. On the HW, the black marginal projections are slightly larger. The shape of semi-translucent golden patch on the subcostal space is peculiar, spreading out well toward the outer edge.
♀: Light form: Dark vein-stripes are present throughout the wing veins. In the allotype, the dark discal spots on HW are inwardly arrowhead-shaped and relatively small, but in the specimens in my collection, they are large and fused with each other and moreover, in discal space 2 – 5, they are also fused with black marginal projections. The pale band on the underside are bright yellow in color.
