INDONESIA [Bangka-Belitung] Belitung (=Biliton) Is. (An island in the Karimata Strait between Sumatra Is. and Karimantan (=Borneo) Is.)
(Episodes of discovery and original description)
This subspecies was described by Deslisle in 1991 on the basis of 6♂♂ and 8♀♀(date of collection not given) collected on Belitung Island, halfway between Sumatra and Borneo.
(Characteristics)
A small, almost unknown subspecies. The Golden patch on subcostal space of HW of ♂ is a peculiar shape with extending towards the outer margin like in sspp. heliconoides and demeter, and the vein-stripes on FW of ♀ are broadened, as in ssp. nereis. At present, only the Light form is known.
(Spotted pattern)
♂: FW is glossy black, but in some specimen vein-stripes are faintly visible. The semi-translucent golden spot on the subcostal space has a peculiar shape, widening as it approaches the outer edge. The incidence of black discal spots is considered to be high.
♀: Light form: The ground color is dark brown. Brownish-gray vein-stripes extend along the apical 1/3 of the cell and each wing-vein. The dark discal spots on HW are large and fused together to form a band, and moreover fused with the dark outer marginal projections, resulting in small pale band. On the underside, the vein-stripes on FW are whitish and yellow areas of HW are pale ochre.
