Described by Rothschild in 1908 based on 1♂and 2♀♀collected in May 1905 on Hainan Island, China; no holotype, all syntypes.
(Characteristics)
Both sexes can be divided into dark and light forms base on the presence or absence of vein-stripes on FW.
(Spotted pattern)
♂: Many individuals have black discal spots on discal spaces on HW, ranging in number from one to six.
- Dark form: Ground color is glossy black without vein-stripes.
- Light form: Yellowish grayish-white vein-stripes on FW present mainly along V2nd -V4th.
♀: Only small yellow spot is present in the subcostal space of HW. Dark discal spots are often small and isolated.
- Dark form: Ground color dark brown without vein-stripe.
- Light form: All veins except V1b have vein-stripes that reach the cell. Cell-spot covers about 1/3 of the tip of cell in an M-shape.
