The detanii is today (2024) the most easily available subspecies of O. paradisea. Both color and shape are representative of the beauty of this magnificent species. The outline from the outer edge of the fore and hind wings to the long tail is an indescribable curve. Why and how did this shape evolve? While female mate choice may explain the beauty of male peacocks, there is little evidence for it in butterflies. This is because females are mated by males immediately after emergence, without time to choose. However, without the selection pressure of “more and more”, the butterfly would not have evolved so beautifully. The fascination of butterflies is that an amateur theory of evolution does not work.
