(Episodes of discovery and original description)

Subspecies described by Kobayashi based on 24♂♂, 5♀♀ collected in the Mentawai Islands. This subspecies is named after Dr. Toshiki Tabuchi, Professor of Kobe University. In the following year (1992), Neukirchen also described it as ssp. apolloniae based on 1♂collected in the same islands.

(Characteristics)

It is a subspecies described by Neukirchen¹⁰⁾ under an alias one year after Kobayashi’s (1991)⁶⁾ publication. This subspecies is larger and distributes further south than the habitats of ssp. jikoi and ssp. mariae.

(Spotted pattern)

♂: Two of the gold green wedge-shaped patches on inner marginal side of FW are in contact with each other. On the HW, the golden green patch on subcostal space is minute and without a white spot. Cobalt-blue spots on the undersides of both FW and HW are present.

♀: Ground color is dark brown. Subapical white streaks of FW are conspicuous, but green wedge-shaped patches and the green patch of HW are also obscure. The cobalt-blue spots at the underside of FW/HW are purple.
