Sakura Science 2025 Program Begins

The Faculty of Agriculture is pleased to announce the commencement of the Sakura Science Exchange Program 2024-2025 Academic Year, funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the prestigious Sakura Science Program. A welcome greeting was host by the International Office, and the participants were greeted by Prof. Dr. Wada, Vice-President for International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Lutes, Chair for International Exchange Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Prof. Dr. Nomura, Director of the Global Cafe.

The opening ceremony was held on Monday January 27 and featured a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Kawamura, Vice-Dean for International Exchange and the program leader, Prof. Dr. Lutes, Chair for International Exchange Committee.

The opening day also featured a visit to the Rare Sugar Research Institute where leading edge research on production of rare sugars is conducted.

Highlights of the Program

  • Open Ceremony: Successfully held at our Faculty, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for all participants.
  • Participants: The program welcomes 8 young researchers from universities across Asia:
    • Assumption University, THAILAND
    • Chiang Mai University, THAILAND
    • Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), VIETNAM
    • Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Mohali, INDIA
    • IPB University, INDONESIA
    • Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), INDONESIA
    • University of Peradeniya, SRI LANKA

Objectives:

The program is designed to foster international academic collaboration, encourage knowledge sharing, and provide participants with hands-on research experience. Additionally, cultural exchange activities will enhance mutual understanding among participants and their host institution.
