Sakura Science Exchange Program 2024-2025 Successfully Concludes at the Faculty of Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture is proud to announce the successful completion of the Sakura Science Exchange Program 2024-2025, a prestigious initiative funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the Sakura Science Program.

Held from January 26 to February 1, 2025, the program brought together eight promising young researchers from leading universities across Asia, fostering academic collaboration, research engagement, and cultural exchange.

Program Participants

The Faculty of Agriculture had the honor of hosting participants from the following distinguished institutions:

  • Assumption University, THAILAND
  • Chiang Mai University, THAILAND
  • Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), VIETNAM
  • Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Mohali, INDIA
  • IPB University, INDONESIA
  • Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), INDONESIA
  • University of Peradeniya, SRI LANKA

Program Highlights

The Opening Ceremony was successfully held at the International Office of Kagawa University, marking the beginning of an enriching and immersive experience. The participants were warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Wada (Vice-President for International Affairs), Prof. Dr. Lutes (Chair for International Exchange Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture), and Prof. Dr. Nomura (Director of the Global Cafe).

Throughout the week-long program, participants engaged in a variety of academic, research, and cultural activities, including:

  • Research Laboratory Training: Hands-on experience in cutting-edge agricultural and life sciences research.
  • AI Training Sessions: Learning the application of artificial intelligence in agricultural studies.
  • Industry Visit to Tokuju Co., Ltd: Gaining insights into advanced botanical research and industrial applications.
  • Tour of the Faculty of Agriculture and Rare Sugar Research Station: Exploring state-of-the-art facilities and engaging in meaningful discussions with researchers.
  • Final Presentations and Closing Ceremony: Participants shared their research insights, reflected on their experiences, and celebrated their achievements.

A Week of Learning, Collaboration, and Cultural Exchange

The program was designed not only to enhance scientific knowledge but also to strengthen cross-cultural understanding among participants and their host institution. It provided an invaluable opportunity for young researchers to collaborate with experts, exchange innovative ideas, and build lasting international connections.

The Closing Ceremony was successfully held at the Faculty of Agriculture, bringing the program to a memorable conclusion. Prof. Dr. Ogawa, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, delivered the closing remarks and presented participants with certificates of attendance in recognition of their dedication and engagement throughout the program.

The Faculty of Agriculture extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, faculty members, and supporting staff who contributed to the success of this program. Special thanks go to the Faculty of Agriculture Sakura Science Team, whose efforts ensured the program’s smooth execution.
