Doctoral Program for International Students (PhD)

Pursue advanced research and become a leader in agricultural and life sciences through the Doctoral Program (PhD)offered by the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGAS).

UGAS is a unique consortium formed by Kagawa University, Kochi University, and Ehime University, combining the academic strengths, research facilities, and faculty of all three institutions. The main administrative office is located at Ehime University, while students conduct their research at their home university.

This collaborative structure allows UGAS to provide a broader and more advanced research environment than any single university could offer alone.

Doctoral study is a three-year program leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The program is designed to train highly specialized researchers with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in bioresources, food systems, and environmental sciences.

Fields of Study (Majors)

UGAS offers three doctoral majors:

This major focuses on the sustainable production and management of plant and animal resources, reflecting the diverse agricultural and aquaculture industries of the Shikoku region.

Fields include:

  • Plant Resource Production
  • Protected (Controlled-Environment) Agriculture
  • Aquaculture and Livestock Production
  • Bioresource Economics

Applied Bioresource Science

This major emphasizes the scientific understanding and technological development of food and biological resources from production to utilization.

Students study the processing, storage, and functional use of agricultural products, supported by advanced research in biochemical and manufacturing technologies.

Fields include:

  • Food Science
  • Bioresource Science for Manufacturing

Life Environment Conservation Science

This major addresses global challenges related to environmental sustainability and resource conservation.

Research focuses on ecosystems ranging from land to marine environments, and on the impacts of human activity on natural systems, with the goal of developing strategies for conservation and environmental management.

Fields include:

  • Land Conservation and Irrigation Engineering
  • Environmental Science
