The closing ceremony of the SUIJI Service Learning Program 2026 (Shodoshima Site) was held at the Faculty of Agriculture on September 3, 10:30, bringing together participating Indonesian and Japanese students, faculty members, and academic staff to celebrate the successful completion of this year’s program.
The event was moderated by Professor Emeritus Tamura, Program Leader of the SUIJI Service Learning Program. The program began with final presentations in English, where students shared the results of their activities conducted in the Senmaida Terraced Rice Fields of Nakayama, Shodoshima Island. Divided into three groups, the participants reflected on their experiences working with local communities, highlighted the knowledge they had gained, and discussed the challenges and opportunities they encountered. Their presentations demonstrated not only their academic growth but also a deep appreciation for the people and culture of Shodoshima.
The official ceremony then opened with remarks from Professor Kawamura, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, who congratulated the participants on their accomplishments and encouraged them to continue applying the knowledge and skills gained through the program. This was followed by the Presentation of Certificates of Completion, recognizing the dedication and hard work of all participating students.
Messages were then delivered by Professor Ogawa, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Professor Emeritus Hayakawa, Program Vice Leader, who reflected on the significance of international collaboration and community-based learning in fostering future leaders. A particularly memorable moment was the speech given by an Indonesian student and program graduate, who shared personal reflections on the lasting impact of the SUIJI experience. The speech highlighted the value of intercultural exchange, friendship, and mutual learning that the program has nurtured over the past two weeks. Following the closing remarks, all participants gathered for a commemorative group photograph to mark the successful completion of the program.
The event concluded with a farewell party in a warm and friendly atmosphere as they reflected on their shared experiences. The gathering became especially emotional as participants exchanged speeches, words of appreciation, and gifts. These heartfelt moments reflected the strong bonds that had been formed throughout the program. As the Indonesian students prepare to return home, they leave Kagawa with unforgettable memories, valuable learning experiences, and friendships that will continue beyond borders.
