Hi everyone! I’m Adam Khalife, and I’m excited to be joining the Faculty of Agriculture as a full-time lecturer. Language has always been a big part of my life—I grew up speaking French as my mother tongue and went on to study English, Spanish, and Italian, as well as Latin and Ancient Greek. But interestingly, I initially took a different path, choosing to become a biologist to follow my growing fascination with the natural sciences.
During my university years, I also discovered a love for Japanese, sparked by anime and music, and had the incredible opportunity to complete multiple research internships in Japan. In 2020, I earned my PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Sorbonne University in Paris, and soon after, I began working as a lecturer in Biology at the University of Le Mans in France.
I first joined Kagawa University in 2022 as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow, and now I’m excited to combine my passions for science and language as a lecturer in Applied Communications. My background as both a trained biologist and a non-native English speaker gives me a unique perspective on the challenges students face when it comes to scientific writing and international presentations.
I look forward to working with you all, sharing experiences, and helping students develop the communication skills they need to thrive in an increasingly globalized academic and professional world!
みなさん、こんにちは。私はアダム・カリーフと申します。このたび、香川大学農学部の専任講師として着任いたしました。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
私は幼少期から言語に強い関心を持ち、母語であるフランス語に加えて、英語、スペイン語、イタリア語、さらにラテン語や古代ギリシャ語を学んできました。しかし、高校時代に自然科学への興味が高まり、生物学の道へ進むことを決意しました。
大学在学中には、日本のアニメや音楽を通じて日本語を学び始め、日本での研究インターンシップにも参加する機会を得ました。2020年にパリのソルボンヌ大学で生態学・進化学の博士号を取得し、その後フランスのル・マン大学にて生物学の講師を務めました。
2022年よりJSPS特別研究員として香川大学に所属し、このたび、科学と語学の双方に関する知識と経験を活かしながら、応用コミュニケーションの講師として新たな挑戦を始めることになりました。私は、生物学者としての専門知識に加え、非ネイティブの英語話者としての経験を活かし、学生の皆さんが科学論文の執筆や国際学会での発表に必要なスキルを身につけられるよう、サポートしていきたいと考えています。
教育とは単に知識を伝えることではなく、学生が主体的に学び、将来にわたって成長し続ける力を育むものだと考えています。皆さんとともに学び合い、新たなアイデアや可能性を探求できることを楽しみにしております。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
