The 2024 JICA Training Program for Japanese Descendants (October 6 – 31) concluded at the Faculty of Agriculture of Kagawa University. The program leaders, Prof. Peter Lutes, Chair of the International Exchange Committee, and Assoc. Prof. Toru Takamizu, Vice-Chair of the International Students Center, welcomed Ms. Eriko Tamura, Director General of JICA Shikoku and Mr. Oguri of JICA Shikoku, Ms. Kamatami, JICA Coordinator and the trainees of the closing ceremony.
The Closing Ceremony was marked by comments from Ms. Eriko Tamura, Director General of JICA Shikoku, Prof. Peter Lutes, Chair of the International Exchange Committee and Hiromi Nishizawa, representing the trainees.
The program was hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture and the International Office of Kagawa University and supported by JICA. The program was designed and led by Prof. Lutes, Faculty of Agriculture and Assoc. Prof. Takamizu, International Office.
During their 16 days (October 15-20) in Kagawa, the Trainees focused on how to establish and operated a successful food business by adopting Japanese food, culture and know how. They studied about food science, business planning and presentation techniques, the role of fusion cuisine in a globalized world, and udon noodle making. They also had opportunities to learn from owners of successful businesses, saw examples of restaurant management, and discussed business models & professional skills.
After completing the month-long training, they presented their own business plans based on the what they learned and experience during the program.
